Please avoid using Z codes, F43.8, and diagnoses beginning with the words "Unspecified", "Unknown" or "Other" as the primary diagnoses.
PLEASE NOTE: Clients with a F43.20 diagnosis need to be reassessed and adjusted after three months.
Clinical Information
Adjustment disorders: A category of psychiatric disorders which are characterized by emotional or behavioral symptoms that develop within 3 months of a stressor and do not persist for more than an additional 6 months after the stressor is no longer present. The 2023 edition of ICD-10 CM F43.20 became effective on October 1, 2022. It is not possible to bill for an adjustment disorder for longer than 6 months. If symptoms persist longer than six months, it's wise to reassess the client's symptoms to see if there is underlying anxiety or depression that the stressor exacerbated.
